Information for Patients
The Health Care Centre is a mixed billing practice. Concession fees are available for pensioners, healthcare card holders and children 16 years and under. Payment is required at the time of consultation and we accept EFTPOS, credit card and cash.
Our doctors will deal with some enquiries over the phone, however these calls interrupt consultations. For this reason, they cannot always take your calls immediately and will return your call when it is convenient. Enquiries are best dealt with by making an appointment with your doctor. If your problem is urgent, please advise Reception.
All personal health information is treated with utmost confidentiality by all staff. To ensure this, all results are communicated BY the Doctor TO the patient by post, email or phone. If a result has not been advised within two weeks, patients are requested to call.
At times, our practice provides results via email. Our email system is only used to communicate normal results to our patients. Please bear in mind that email communication may be compromised if you have email without encryption. If you do not wish to receive communication from your Doctor via email, please advise reception. Please note this email system is a read only system and cannot be used to communicate with your Doctor.
Reminders and Recalls
Our Practice offers a "Recall and Reminder" system to recall and remind patients about clinically significant results and preventative care issues. Privacy laws require that we obtain your consent to send you these reminders. All doctors follow the guidelines for preventative care as outlined by the RAGCP's guideline, which are in line with the recommendations of organisations such as the National Heart Foundation, National Cervical Screening and Breast Screen.
In order for us to provide the very best of care, it is important for you to keep us informed of any changes to your details. If you have moved house or changed your home or mobile numbers recently, please inform reception.
Should you require a long appointment with your doctor, please advise reception at the time of making the appointment. A long consultation will be required if you wish to discuss multiple or complex health problems, completion of forms for Insurance or Medicals etc. If you are unsure, please ask reception.
Repeat Prescriptions and Referrals
Repeat prescriptions and referrals forms require a consultation with the doctor. Please check what scripts/referrals you require prior to your consultation.
Travel Vaccinations and Immunisations
Please schedule an appointment with your doctor at least 4 to 6 weeks before your trip. Please be aware Vaccines are delicate substances that can become less effective or unusable if they are not kept between 2-8 degrees. To ensure your vaccine is kept viable, please collect the vaccine/s from the Pharmacy on the way to your doctor’s appointment. Please proceed to the practice without delay. On arrival at the practice, let the Receptionist know immediately that you have a vaccine requiring refrigeration.
Care Plan and EPC Referrals
Patients who suffer from chronic illness are often commenced on a Care Plan that enables them to attend limited sessions with allied health providers. Often we get calls from patients who have been told by these providers to get a Care Plan from their GP. Sometimes this can be misleading to our patients. These Care Plans must be at the doctor’s discretion and the patient be diagnosed with a chronic disease to qualify. If in doubt, please ask your GP at your next visit.
Please advise reception should you require a Workers Compensation consultation. All of our doctors are able to see their patients for workers compensation claims. However, please be aware the patient will personally be responsible for all costs incurred. These costs are to be paid at time of consultation. If you have any questions, please discuss with the Receptionist.

Medical Records Transfers
If you wish to transfer your health record to another service provider please ask your new provider to send The Health Care Centre a transfer application form signed by you. Alternatively if you would like The Health Care Centre to obtain records from another service provider please see reception for a Transfer application. Depending on the method of transfer and postage, a fee of $20.00 may be charged to forward the complete patient file. If this fee is payable, you will be contacted before the transfer is made.
Feedback and Complaints
Our practice welcomes any feedback in order to improve our service. We have implemented changes as a result of our Patient Feedback Surveys. The Practice will acknowledge and respond to a patient complaint, Dr Johanna Kovats and Megan Williams will be available to respond to any concerns.
